1.5 Conclusion

Typography has evolved throughout the years and have been extensively used beneficially to people. With the freedom we have nowadays, the style of typography varies and can be used without any restriction. Both Rand and Sagmeister agree that there is no limit in designing and using typography in a poster. Up till now, there is no specification on the type of typeface used on designs unless it is mentioned in the company’s handbook. On the other hand, simplicity in typography and layout definitely give an expensive and classic look to it. Quoting from the famous painter, Leonardo da Vinci- “ Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication” but will simplicity reach to the point where it is too minimal?  Designs that are too minimal will make people get confused. Therefore, typography is very influential when it comes to commercial use and will continue to grow with new styles and purpose. 1.4 Question Statement and Theory

1. Do simplicity in typography and layout play a key role in having a good and functional design?  " Simplicity is not a goal. It is the by-product of a good idea and modest expectations "- Paul Rand Rand’s poster designs are simple yet functional using classic typeface such as Futura and Helvetica.
