Fan art- Incorporation of My Little Pony and Eeveelution from Pokémon
As "a vehicle of and for the national imagination transmitted through a currency of superpowers and lovable characters", Pokemon fans are very invested in their characters. (Allison, 2006) Therefore, with their love and interest for the characters, they create their own version of the story also known as fan-fiction. According to Henry Jenkins, fan fiction can be seen as an unauthorised expansion of these media franchises into new directions which reflect the reader's desire to "fill in the gaps" they have discovered in the commercially produced material.
Fan fiction are normally being produced by dedicated individual that wish to continue the role for their favourite character in the initial story. Pleasing their own desire, they create their own storyline; it could be a continuation, a new storyline or even a crossover between characters from other television series. Basically, there is no limit to fan-fiction. Consumers of fan-fiction are able to have deeper exploration on certain characters and also have a better understanding on the characters from the perspective of others (example: cultural, gender). Consumers of fan-fiction are able to be critical on the narratives created by fans; joining in the fun of the storyline or disagreeing on the story. The imagination of an individual is unlimited.
Furthermore, with the creativity of fans, the creator of the some franchise will sometimes interact with them by giving the public choices to continue the storyline. Moreover, the producer are also able to encourage and acknowledge fans by using the terms or story they have created.
Eeveelution: Combination of the term Eevee(Pokémon) and "evoultion"
In this case of Pokémon, the term 'Eeveelution' and 'Shiny Pokémon' are terms created by the fandom that are "officially used as a pun in the official guide of Pokémon Stadium, TCG Theme Deck Eeveelution and the game, Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia".(Bulbapedia n.d.)
Original Charizard
Shiny Pokémon: Charizard
Shiny Pokémon on the other hand was created from the reference of "the sparkling sound effect and animation made at the start of an encounter with one in the games." This term is used as a replacement of the original word 'alterate coloration' or 'rare coloration' in conjunction of the different coloration of certain Pokémon.(Bulbapedia n.d.)
