1.2 Modernism & Postmodernism

Modernism
Typography has change in design and communication form prior to the 19th century approach as it was very decorative and filled with images and illustrations before that. Designers of the modern era follow strict rules like using specific typeface and grid rules to design their artwork or advertisements to make it look simple and clean. They constricted themselves into using the grid system, as it was sacred to them.

Grid system was invented by Josef Müller-Brockmann and was known since the 1950s. Brockmann's secret to simple and good looking designs is using the grid system. Therefore, he published a book on grid system to help other designers have a touch of  good design layout. It is used to give a guide to designers to organise their layout. It is simple yet functional as the text is displayed through the arrangement of grid which is specially designed to made the eye follow the text. Furthermore, since the grid system was invented during the modernism period, many designers were attracted and surprised by the functionality of it which made the grid system sacred during that period of time.

Postmodernism
Typography from the era of postmodernism onwards has changed significantly as the evolution of technology played a significant role in giving more possibilities for designers to create typography in a more efficient way. Therefore, postmodernism art style is wild and crazy, breaking the boundaries set by modernism to express their feelings through the design of text.

Digital revolution has made a huge impact in the design world. Therefore, designers have the freedom and equipment to design efficiently. Furthermore, with the efficiency of printing, mass production occur and the job opportunity for typography and design increased massively.

3.6 Conclusion & Essay Structure

QUESTION 5 Explore a variety of media is used within the context of branding or transmedia storytelling . Does variety dilute the effectiveness of an advertising campaign or story? From my research this past few weeks, I decided to concentrate solely on trans-media storytelling and plan to concentrate on one franchise that uses it which is  Pokémon as I believe it has greatly succeeded by using this technique. Therefore, I will be including Henry Jenkins' theory of transmedia storytelling 101 to backup my research essay on  Pokémon as trans-media storytelling.  To be honest, I'm not sure whether I'm on the right track on this essay topic because I'm only concentrating on one specific franchise in trans-media storytelling and whether the points on my essay structure is repeating itself? Not much critical thinking? _________________________________________________________________________________ ESSAY STRUCTURE So does the variety of trans-media storytelling di...

3.5e Pokémon Fan Fiction

Fan art- Incorporation of My Little Pony and Eeveelution from Pokémon As "a vehicle of and for the national imagination transmitted through a currency of superpowers and lovable characters", Pokemon fans are very invested in their characters. (Allison, 2006) Therefore, with their love and interest for the characters, they create their own version of the story also known as fan-fiction . According to Henry Jenkins, fan fiction can be seen as an unauthorised expansion of these media franchises into new directions which reflect the reader's desire to "fill in the gaps" they have discovered in the commercially produced material. Fan fiction are normally being produced by dedicated individual that wish to continue the role for their favourite character in the initial story. Pleasing their own desire, they create their own storyline; it could be a continuation, a new storyline or even a crossover between characters from other television series. Basically, there...
