Continuing my previous blog post,
Besides the main storyline, there were many other media being included.
Awareness
A 30-minute documentary was released on YouTube, a few months after tv-series. It is mashup of casts, producers and mental health professionals discussing about the series and how they feel about the show. Furthermore, there is a website aided for support line which has options for almost every country.
Promoting
Selena Gomez being the executive producer, also contributed 2 songs to the soundtrack. The lyrics of the songs are relatable and furthermore promotes the tv series through music. Social medias such as Tumblr and Facebook page was involved. Though tumblr has the same concept as a blog, "13 Reasons Why" has made it into a user generated content website to let fans explore with their creativity and let their emotions go after watching the series by infusing quotes into images, gifs, etc. On the other hand, the Facebook page was created to constantly update fans. From this two social media being used, it is proves that " both culture jammers and fans have gained greater visibility as they have deployed the web community building, intellectual exchange, cultural distribution, and media activism " (Jenkins, 2002)
After a decade. the media have been improved and there are more variety compared to the past. Thus, has made information shared around being more accessible. It is incredible how reproducing this story into a different media shows a different perspective of the story.
