Back to my question, how YouTubers are paid ?
YouTube
YouTubers only start getting paid after they hit 1,000 subscribers
on their channel. The amount of viewers on their video, counts.
" 1, 000 views gets you about $1.50 of revenue." (Kachroo-Levine,
2015) " If a YouTuber links Google AdSense to their channel, they make 68%
of the ad revenue. YouTube charges advertisers when a viewer watches 30 seconds
or more of the ad. Only about 15% of viewers will be counted as a "paid
view" since many of them skip. " (Alleger, 2015)
1,000 views –> 150 views of people completing
the ad
$.18 per view x 150 views = $27 charged to
advertiser
$27 advertiser charge x 68% revenue share = $18
paid to content creator per 1,000 views
(Alleger, 2015)
With YouTube's unstable payment, YouTubers are able to open up a
Patreon account to get a steady income (monthly or per video) and not hesitate
to produce videos on YouTube for a living.(Patreon, n.d) Patreon is a
platform where viewers can donate their money to their fellow favourite
YouTubers to support them. Thinking that YouTubers should have more credits on
their video being a free content that could be access by anyone and having to
produce a video with their own money. Furthermore, Patreon users can get closer
to their fans with and intimate environment. (Patreon, n.d) Patreon will only
take 5-10% of successful-processed payments depending on the payout fees. (Patreon, n.d.)
CONCLUSION
YouTubers actually get paid. Basically, YouTubers rely their
pay cheque on their audience and also advertisements so to get more income,
they have to engage with their audience frequently and effectively. It is also
important for their viewers to not use ad-block. Moreover, YouTubers have
a special way to brand themselves. YouTubers have a platform where they
are free to express themselves and also get some income.
Question : How can I compare and contrast this point with other
community ?
Viewers
- Do not get paid for
watching YouTube videos but can support their fellow YouTubers in different
ways
- The source of YouTuber's income
- Learn a thing or two from YouTubers
- All the contents are free to watch
- Viewers are able to get inspired by YouTubers
Business Companies
- It is not free for them to advertise their products unless they
create a video and share it to other social media platform.
- Pay YouTube/YouTubers to brand their products.
- Target YouTubers who engage with the audience who will most
likely consume their product.
