2.7a Business Companies - Marketers

Social media is one of the biggest platform for advertising and YouTube as it is owned by Google, the main source of advertising online. As a Graphic Design and Advertising student, I feel it is important to broaden my knowledge about advertising connecting to social media as it is one of the main source of advertising in this digital age.

How do business companies take advantage of YouTube for marketing ?
Business company would rather spend their money on advertising on YouTube as it is not only affordable and effective but also cheaper. Based on the image below, there are a few ways advertisement can be put in place on YouTube. YouTube ads have an average cost-per-view (CPV) of $0.10 - $0.30, and the views that you generate will count towards your overall YouTube viewer count. Furthermore, YouTube only charges you when the viewers watch the whole advertisement (if the video less than 30 seconds) or a least 30 seconds of the advertisement. This means companies/marketers would only have to pay generate viewers that interested in letting your message get across them. All of these are effective only when the advertiser target their audience demographically. With cheaper cut on advertising, business companies are then able to expand their marketing through other medium.

Furthermore, build your brand by making a quality video. Storytelling is one of the best ways to to engage with your audience. It can be emotional or in a fun manner. If a video is done right, business companies will have a bloom in their product purchased and also through the amount of views that get off their YouTube channel. Their YouTube video could also be interactive by spotting links to click on the video to link to their main website and even get free stuff like the video shown below. It is one of an example of a very successful integrated campaign held by Cheer detergent and using YouTube as their main source by uploading an original interactive music video that no one has done before.

Fun fact : This is one of the many videos that was shown to us during Directions class about 360 Integrated Campaign.  I realised that all of the Integrated Campaign videos used YouTube as one of their sources for their campaign. This video particularly caught my attention as getting the attention from the new generation for laundry detergent is quite difficult but this company manage to pull it off by having the right combination.

Moreover, by creating and uploading a viral video on their YouTube channel, they are able to share it to other social network. This is a plus side for marketers because by doing so, they are able to spread their message effortlessly and globally without any payment which is far more effective than TV commercials or radio advertisements.

In conclusion, YouTube is very versatile and can be used for many different reasons. As seen from the point of view of marketers, with a good strategy and correct target audience, they are able to successfully gain their business.

Once again, from my Direction class, I learnt something new that relates to my topic. It is about television commercial (TVC) and YouTube videos that are posted online by marketers. Videos that are particularly produced for YouTube is known as viral video. TVC and viral video is a different thing. Although all of us know what a viral video is, do we know how to differentiate it with TVC ? Viral video is something that just attract your attention and you willingly want to share the content with others online whereas TVC is something that is produced for the television. TVC can also be re-uploaded and shared online but serves a different purpose.

3.6 Conclusion & Essay Structure

QUESTION 5 Explore a variety of media is used within the context of branding or transmedia storytelling . Does variety dilute the effectiveness of an advertising campaign or story? From my research this past few weeks, I decided to concentrate solely on trans-media storytelling and plan to concentrate on one franchise that uses it which is  Pokémon as I believe it has greatly succeeded by using this technique. Therefore, I will be including Henry Jenkins' theory of transmedia storytelling 101 to backup my research essay on  Pokémon as trans-media storytelling.  To be honest, I'm not sure whether I'm on the right track on this essay topic because I'm only concentrating on one specific franchise in trans-media storytelling and whether the points on my essay structure is repeating itself? Not much critical thinking? _________________________________________________________________________________ ESSAY STRUCTURE So does the variety of trans-media storytelling di...

3.5e Pokémon Fan Fiction

Fan art- Incorporation of My Little Pony and Eeveelution from Pokémon As "a vehicle of and for the national imagination transmitted through a currency of superpowers and lovable characters", Pokemon fans are very invested in their characters. (Allison, 2006) Therefore, with their love and interest for the characters, they create their own version of the story also known as fan-fiction . According to Henry Jenkins, fan fiction can be seen as an unauthorised expansion of these media franchises into new directions which reflect the reader's desire to "fill in the gaps" they have discovered in the commercially produced material. Fan fiction are normally being produced by dedicated individual that wish to continue the role for their favourite character in the initial story. Pleasing their own desire, they create their own storyline; it could be a continuation, a new storyline or even a crossover between characters from other television series. Basically, there...
